Gateway to the Niagara Escarpment
Situated on the edge of the Niagara escarpment, The Town of Milton is the fastest growing area in the GTA. Spectacular cliffs and Crawford Lake are major attractions for hikers, rock climbers, skiers and those who enjoy being outdoors. Downtown Milton or " Mill Town" as it was first known, is a blend of Victorian architecture, mature parks, boutique shops and fine restaurants. Unique historic sites such as Waldies blacksmith shop add charm and character to it's distinctive business community.
There is something for every budget and taste in Milton. While new construction is evident all across the south of Milton, you can find lots of resale homes in both newer subdivisions and older established areas. More mature areas of Milton are predominantly north of Derry Rd and west of Thompson. Included in the older areas are homes located in the city core which include stately georgian syle homes within walking distance of the shops and boutiques located along Main Street.
The choice in Milton is really the buyers' desire for a turnkey purchase offered in a newer home versus buying an older home in a mature area which offers a large lot but which may or may not require some renovation.
Market Information
You can purchase a newer home (under 5 years old) in Milton for under $400,000 making it possibly the lowest priced neighbourhood in the backyard of the GTA. Homeownership starts in the $200,000 range for a very small detached older property but $500,000 will purchase a stunning newer 4-bedroom home of 2500 sq. ft.
It is worth noting that the market in Milton is very active with strongest demand for older resale homes which offer buyers more property and less bells and whistles. These older properties offer larger lots and the opportunity to renovate to taste. While the value of older properties is decling in most areas as demand increases for newer properties, the exact opposite is true in Milton!
